Intel® Buzz Workshop – Austin, TX

The Intel® Buzz Workshop finally made its stop in Austin, TX at VUKA, a gorgeous co-working space in the heart of the developer community. On Oct. 15, more than 150 game devs attended the Buzz Workshop, bringing their excitement, passion and love of all things games!


Attendees were very enthusiastic about meeting industry mavens and came ready to tackle the biggest challenges in the  industry today. Participants saw demos from Intel, RealSense and Unity, got to check out awesome speaker sessions, AND play nine local indie dev games in the showcase!

At 11am, Josh Doss at Intel gave a warm welcome to all attendees. Next, Warren Spector, Director of the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy, gave an inspirational keynote and shared stories from his 30 years of experience in the game industry. He addressed several key issues facing game developers, and delivered some great advice for both new and seasoned veterans alike.

Stephanie OrkandTess Snider, Sheri Graner Ray and Jennifer Bullard, joined us for the Women in Games Panel. They each shared their years of experience and gave passionate and important advice to the audience.


After lunch, we welcomed Joe Scheinberg of Intel to talk about Intel®’s RealSense™ technology and how this technological breakthrough can enhance the gaming experience. Next, it was Corey Johnson who gave some great tips on building games using Unity 3D engine. Starr Long, Executive Producer of Portalarium, shared from his 25 years of experience in design vision and talked about how feedback from gamers helps him achieve great results. The last featured talk was given by Brandon Blair at Intel who shared his experience on how to make good games into great games with Intel® INDE Graphic Performance Analyzers. 


Lastly, it was time for the Launch and Funding panel featuring Raphael Colantonio, Gordon Walton, and Elizabeth Howard with Frank Coppersmith, President of IGDA-Austin as a moderator. With their deep involvement in the gaming industry, each panelist gave great advice on how to launch and fund games. It was very inspirational to hear how they found solutions, overcame  obstacles and became the successful influencers  they are today.


At 5:30PM, the Indie Dev Showcase got underway. There were 9 awesome indie games and 4 of them selected to be the winners of the Austin Buzz Workshop!
